Impact in Action
Our core research and implementation focus areas — and how each one is creating measurable change in public health.
01
Gender-Based Studies
Health research that accounts for the people behind the data.
We investigate how gender shapes people's responses to care and outcomes across the life course — from second-hand tobacco smoke and physical activity to gender dynamics in difficult situations.
Representative work
“A light-touch intervention with a Happy Life — gender and role in a gender symposium programme — Global Public Health”

Tobacco & Non-Communicable Diseases
The chronic disease transition, addressed where it begins.
Ethiopia sits at the edge of the NCD transition. We support ministries and civil society with prevalence studies, policy analysis, exposure assessment, and chronic disease surveillance.
Representative work
“Measurement of hospitality venues in Ethiopia — WHO Tobacco Smoke Exposure (FCTC, 2020)”
03
Maternal & Child Health
The programmes and systems that shape a life.
We work on the upstream determinants of maternal and child health — nutrition, water, healthcare, antenatal care quality, and the integration of services at the primary-care level.
Representative work
“UNFPA-supported reproductive health research and integration — evidence base for RH services at secondary level”
04
Infectious Diseases
Prevention, and the communities that anchor both.
From neglected tropical diseases to emerging outbreak threats, we develop screening and surveillance approaches that are sensitive to local context.
Representative work
“Studies in the Amhara region of northern Ethiopia — Schistosomiasis community surveillance”
